ITD director gives OK to megaloads on U.S. 12

Idaho Transportation Department Director Brian Ness accepted the
recommendations today of a hearing officer to issue permits to
Imperial Oil/ExxonMobil to transport megaloads on U.S. Highway 12
from Lewiston to the Montana border.
The ruling, according to a news release from ITD, concludes a
five-month administrative hearing process on whether to allow the
proposed shipments. It’s not yet known when the first shipment will
head out on U.S. 12 to the Montana border and when or if Montana
officials will allow the over-legal loads into that state.
When they do travel, the megaloads will take up two lanes of
traffic as they travel at night. They will be required to pull over
every 15 minutes to allow traffic to pass and be accompanied by an
Idaho State Police trooper on overtime paid by the oil
company.
