Dear Ted,

Thanks, in part, to UCS member-funded science making it possible to
quantify the contributions of individual polluters to the impacts of
climate change, Big Oil is in some serious trouble. *This science is
helping inform a wave of law suits challenging fossil fuel companies in the
United States.*1 Big Oil's response? Pull out all the stops to avoid
accountability…

Just last month, in a case brought by the city of Baltimore in which UCS
joined an amicus brief, Big Oil attorneys tried to convince three judges of
the 4th US Circuit Court of Appeals that this case should be heard at the
federal level—rather than in state courts. They think they'll get
friendlier rulings in federal court.2

*But we're on this; working with partners around the country, we're
fighting to keep Big Oil from using legal maneuvers and flashy PR campaigns
to evade responsibility for the lies they've told and the damage they've
done.*
