Yes, there is a bit of a slope, though in the old 1884 photo it appears quite a bit more steep. It wouldn’t surprise me though if the city did some grading at some point and that could account for the apparent difference.

You can see the hill descending and then rising in the distance in this screenshot from Google maps. I don't know if Vision 2020 allows attachments but you can just look North from 100 N. Main Street.

That (much-appreciated) photo of Moscow’s Main St 1884 is fascinating. I’m curious though. There is a fairly steep hill descending toward the north. Where did that go? It’s nowhere to be seen nowadays. Traffic erosion? Divine intervention? PhotoShop?
