September 1971 - I remember this like it was yesterday. The military’s largest pay increase EVER happened during the Nixon administration.
 
To add to such a magnificent occasion . . . at the time I was single . . . all of nineteen years of age . . . almost three years before meeting Rodna . . . and assigned to Company D, 71st Maintenance Battalion . . . Merrell Barracks . . . Nurnberg, Germany . . . where one can drink at 18 . . . AND . . . although you could not buy love . . .YOU COULD CERTAINLY RENT IT at forty Deutschmarks, about ten dollars back then an “episode”. So, a bunch of us got together . . . went into town . . . AND PARTIED ! ! !

THOSE WERE THE DAYS !
