[Vision2020] Hobby Lobby and Women's Rights

I am so fed up with the idea of men’s (mostly) “sincerely held religious beliefs,” historically enslaving women, circumscribing their place in society, and denying them control of their own bodies.  This is only one more example.  I, too, think Scott pretty well nailed the SC vote.  I’m just hoping Roberts won’t side with HLobby.  If there is a silver lining to these assaults on the ACA it may be that the electorate will tire of all the maneuvering and force policy makers to reconsider a “single payer” system.   

Remembering,  that only a few months ago a woman in Ireland was denied a therapeutic abortion that would have saved her life.  The courts said, “No.”  She died.  Custom, men’s laws, and “sincerely held religious belief” continue to prevail worldwide. 

Noting,  that The UN Convention:  Elimination of All Forms of Discrimination Against Women, has now been ratified by all nations except Iran, Palau, Somalia, Sudan, Tonga and THE UNITED STATES.  My Source is Jimmy Carter’s just published work:  A Call to Action, Women, Religion, Violence, and Power. 

And,  the Freedoms listed in the Constitutional Amendments have always had limitations.  Generally those limitations deal with issues such as safety and encroachment on other people’s civil rights.  So, to a lot of us, men and women,  the so-called religious freedom issue is moot. This is just another thinly veiled attempt to control women.     I’m hoping the Supreme Court agrees.

If 'religious freedom' equates to an employer exerting control over a woman's insurance coverage concerning birth control and emergency contraception, then agree with your assessment.  Note that Hobby Lobby's business is arts and crafts.  It is not a religious organization.  It should not be allowed to meddle with insurance line items of their female employees.  It's cases like this that bolster a system of 'single payer'.

Scott pretty well nailed it on how the vote will go, however everyone is a little off on what the case is about. Abortion is at the root of the problem, but the case itself is about religious freedom.
