PRESS RELEASE
New Parks and Recreation Youth Scholarship Changes Go Into Effect October 1st
September 20, 2013 (Moscow, Idaho) - The City of Moscow Parks and Recreation Scholarship program has experienced a tremendous increase in usage over the last two years. The increased demand has caused funding concerns, which the City Council addressed with changes to the Parks and Recreation Youth Scholarship Program that will become effective October 1, 2013. These changes include new funding caps and proof-of-need requirements to be eligible to take advantage of the program in fiscal year 2014, which begins October 1, 2013.
New funding caps include a $200 limit per individual, $500 limit per family, and will provide a maximum of $18,000 of City of Moscow funds to the scholarship program per year. Donations are accepted for this program. Moscow residency will be required with the exception being that program donations and grants not dedicated specifically to residents would be usable by nonresidents on a first-come-first-served basis. A parent or caregiver is required to request the scholarship.
Proof of need will be required to be eligible for funds. The following are available as proof of eligibility including the following:
1. Free or Reduced Lunch Program with a letter from the school
2. Electronic Benefit Transfer (EBT) with their card
3. Supplemental Nutrition Asst. Program (SNAP) with their card
4. Women, Infants, Children (WIC) with their card
Applicants will be required to apply for the scholarships in person at the Parks and Recreation office located in the Hamilton Indoor Recreation Center at 1724 East F Street, Moscow, Idaho.
For more information or questions, please contact the Parks and Recreation office at 208.883.7085.
