The United Nations is not "telling us what laws we should strike down", Mr Rumelhart.

"A United Nations-based drug agency urged [emphasis added] the United States government on Tuesday to challenge the legalization of marijuana for recreational use in Colorado and Washington, saying the state laws violate international drug treaties."

The United Nations is merely attempting to persuade our government "to challenge the legalization of marijuana for recreational use in Colorado and Washington".
