[Vision2020] Hmmm . . .& Oscar Pistorious

Good Morning Visionaries:

As I pointed out in my ignored column, children and women are less safe in
homes with guns, and gun suicide rates in the home are much higher than any
other countries except some in Latin American and Swaziland. Yes, Joe, the
risks are far too high.

Oscar Pistorious' lover had locked herself in the bathroom, so it would
have been difficult for him to use a knife to kill her. Instead he
unloaded his pistol through the door. His defense is that he thought she
was an intruder, even though her side of the bed was of course empty and
there were no signs of illegal entry. I don't think that many women lock
themselves in their bathrooms unless they feel that they have been
threatened.

Pistorious loved his guns and his motto for Nike ads was "I'm the bullet in
the chamber." Thank the goddess, Nike has pulled the ad but not his
contract. Sadly, machismo will continue to drive gun violence all over the
world, but strict regulation has made a difference even in "mate"culture of
Australia. High time to turn in our Bushmaster "man" cards and throw them
in an Aussie "waste tidy."

Yes, Joe, you are right that it is an empirically problem, but most
conservatives don't care much for facts.

Nick
