[Vision2020] 60 School Shootings Linked to Psychiatric Drugs Over Past 20 Years

Daniel,

You are not making any sense? How do you think changing the medication of children impacts mass killings with machine guns? How do you check if someone is on medication if the government doesn't do a background check on medical records? Doesn't this reinforce the wrong stereotype that all people that have a mental illness are dangerous and violent? Wouldn't people skip mental health treatment if they felt they needed a gun for protection, leaving us and them in more danger? Do you think it medically wise to destroy the lives of many children because 3% of children have bad side effects to medications? Should we do this with all medications, many people have bad reactions to penicillin, should we let the diabetics suffer and die for the 2%?  How about we have a single payer health care system so children are properly cared for, medicated, and monitored, and not allowed unsupervised usage of dangerous weapons?

Mr. Hansen, now THOSE are the questions we need to be talking about. How come you are the only one to ask them?? Maybe you could dedicate a web page to this enquete? Perhaps we could start a petition on WhiteHouse.gov for them to stop trying to ban "assault rifles" and instead look into the effects of psychiatric drugs!

Donovan right away assumed it would include infringement of personal rights (medical records, etc)...where did that come from? Let's talk about the people MAKING these. Let's study the effects of these drugs. If they do indeed cause people to commit suicide or commit mass murder...should we not ban doctors from prescribing them just as we wouldn't let them prescribe any other poison?

I don't pretend to be an expert on drugs. I do believe that it's not random that pretty much every mass killing involved men on psychiatric drugs. I'm also willing (but very skeptical) to find out that there is in fact no correlation. If that is proved and demonstrated, then we've eliminated a possibility. Given the almost obvious correlation though, I think we should go ahead and look into it before even worrying about other possibilities. It's called the scientific method, and I'm sure you're all familiar with it at least in theory.

Looking forward to hearing a lot more about it from you thinkers! I'm just here to point out what seems to be the obvious, yet completely missed by everyone who's pressing for gun control: psychiatric drugs are related to mass killings, and if this issue were solved, could greatly diminish the possibility of future mass murders.

So, how to solve it?

>>The point here is that psychiatric drugs are closely connected to violence, and yet we have ignored them altogether and gone after inanimate objects. Why not talk about examining how and when drugs are administered, and to whom? Should we be banning these drugs altogether, thus possibly eliminating the cause of 99% of mass shootings? It's for the kids! Maybe there is a case for their continued usage - let's talk about it, let's talk about the REAL cause of gun violence, and mass shootings in particular.
