PRESS RELEASE
Municipal Well #9 Reinstallation
April 9, 2013 (Moscow, Idaho) — The City of Moscow began the reinstallation of municipal well #9 on Monday, April 8, 2013. Well #9 has been offline since June 22, 2012, due to mechanical issues. This well accounts for 40% of the potable water production capacity for the City.
Reinstallation and testing will take approximately four days, with the motor and pump components of the well in place by Wednesday, April 10, 2013 and subsequent cleaning and testing to take place the following two days. With the completion of successful testing, the well flow will be directed into the distribution system. Staff will be monitoring the system and process around the clock during these initial operations as needed.
Once the installation process is completed and water begins to flow through the system, customers may experience some sediment and discolored water. If this occurs, customers should run only the cold water for several minutes every 15 to 20 minutes at least four times. If the water remains discolored the customer should call the Water Department at 208.882.3122.
If customers notice dirty or discolored water it is best to run only cold water and to wait until the water has cleared to wash laundry or to use for drinking. Sediment and discoloration issues should subside by Friday morning, April 12, 2013 however if they do not please call the Water Department as early as possible on Friday the 12th so that your call can be addressed promptly.
For more information or assistance, please call the Water Department at 208.882.3122. Distribution employees will be available during regular business hours Monday through Friday and for extended hours on Thursday, April 11, 2013 from 6 to 10 p.m. For urgent situations outside of those hours, customers should call the Whitcom 911 Center at 509.332.2521.
