The following U.S. service members died while supporting Operation Enduring Freedom combat operations in Afghanistan, confirmed by the Defense Department fromSeptember 21, 2012 through September 27, 2012:
 
Army Sgt. Jonathan A. Gollnitz, 28, of Lakehurst, New Jersey; assigned to the 1st Squadron, 91st Cavalry Regiment, 173rd Airborne Brigade Combat Team, Schweinfurt, Germany.
 
Navy Gunners Mate 2nd Class Dion R. Roberts, 25, of North Chicago, Illinois; assigned to an East Coast Naval Special Warfare Unit.
 
Army Staff Sgt. Orion N. Sparks, 29, of Tucson, Arizona; assigned to the 1st Squadron, 91st Cavalry Regiment, 173rd Airborne Brigade Combat Team, Schweinfurt, Germany.
 
Army Sgt. 1st Class Riley G. Stephens, 39, of Tolar, Texas; assigned to the 1st Battalion, 3rd Special Forces Group (Airborne), Fort Bragg, North Carolina.
