I totally disagree. Liberal as in CIVIL LIBERTIES. The "excessive
government spending" affiliation is a made up political story. There simply
IS no more excessive liberal spending than war, which is not generally
affiliated with liberals. Don't let the bad arguments of your enemies
control the labels of your position. You'll note a similarity here with my
views on free will, as I expressed them in the lengthy post which likely no
one read. Perhaps a good thing!

But I think most of the liberals/progressives on this list agree with you
and like the name "progressive" better, which is why I often use that
label. I'm a liberal, though!
