And, to Debi's excellent comments, I want to emphasize the following:

McGee's reputation was further bruised over the summer when the AP reported
that despite having a home just 26 miles from the Capitol, he had been
claiming a $122 per diem during the Legislature that adds up to some $6,000
annually. The money is meant to defray the cost of a second residence in
Boise, but McGee was spending nights at his parents' house in Boise.

Most southwestern Idaho lawmakers claim a $49 per diem

But, I suppose GOPers & 'Baggers were content to just turn yet another blind
eye to that blatant government waste.  The thinking amongst us know that had
a Dem. legislator been caught pulling that kind of crap, they'd have been
unceasingly - and rightly -- hounded by their fellow GOP legislators with
deafening squawking for resignation.

The GOP leadership was stunningly silent on that aspect - for them, it was
just another of their pals lining their pockets at the expense of ordinary
Idahoans . . . life as usual in the Idaho GOP.  Who amongst us can forget
Rep. Phil Hart's stealing from our schools and the pathetic & spineless
behavior of Speaker Denney in dealing with Hart's indisputably amoral and
unethical behavior?  Who amongst us?  That would be the entrenched good ol'
boys GOP network who are more than willing to ignore the specks in their
brethren's eyes while stealing from the taxpayers and driving this state in
a race to the bottom, that's who.

But, what the heck - those cowardly militia-types the Daily News chose to
"anonymously" feature (what a hoot - as though those of us with brains don't
know exactly who those wingnuts really are) just looovvvveee Phil Hart & his
ilk.

GOP senator quits, sexual harassment alleged

Sen. John McGee has resigned from the Idaho Legislature, amid allegations of
sexual harassment of a female senate attache, reports the Associated Press.

The Attorney General has been asked to investigate the allegations.

The four-term Republican senator from Caldwell turned in a resignation
letter this morning.

Sen. Brent Hill, the President of the Idaho Senate, said it was McGee's
decision to step down.

McGee had been the caucus chairman, the fourth ranking post in the Senate.

McGee did not immediately return telephone messages left Wednesday by the
Associated Press.

The resignation caps a difficult year for McGee. McGee was arrested on June
19 - Father's Day. McGee began drinking at a Boise golf tournament, and says
he largely blacked out and simply doesn't remember the details of what
happened next.

According to police, McGee took a Ford Excursion and cargo trailer from the
southwest Boise home of a "complete stranger" and got it stuck in a yard. A
breath test showed McGee's blood-alcohol content at nearly twice the legal
limit.

Last summer, McGee pleaded guilty to drunken driving in a deal that erased
accompanying auto theft charges. He served jail time and paid restitution
for a stranger's vehicle that he damaged.
