PRESS RELEASE
East City Park Updates to Facilities
December 18, 2012 (Moscow, Idaho) - The City of Moscow is moving forward with plans for improvements to East City Park, located at Hayes and Third Street in Moscow. These improvements include the installation of a new restroom facility and pre-school age playground.
Following the solicitation of competitive bids, the City of Moscow has approved a contract with Big Sky Development, Inc., of Hayden, Idaho, to construct a new restroom facility at East City Park. Construction commenced on December 3, 2012, with completion of the structure expected on April 5, 2013. Architectural services for the project were provided by Design West of Pullman, WA.
The 504 square foot building will include 3-fixture restrooms for men and women, a family changing area and toilet, and a janitor's closet for use by staff. The building will be constructed of masonry materials, complemented by pre-formed metal siding. Plans include skylights to allow natural light inside the restrooms, exterior security lighting, porcelain fixtures, and walkways around the facility. The new building will be located approximately 40 feet southeast of the existing restroom and stage structure.
The remaining, arson damaged building will be razed by City Parks staff next summer, after plans and construction work for preserving the existing stage structure are completed. Use of the stage will continue as it has in the past; currently there are no current plans for building a new stage. The new restroom facility has been designed to be flexible and compatible should any improvements to the stage be completed in the future.
Members of the public are asked to use caution when walking or riding through East City Park until construction work is completed next spring. The contractor will fence off the work area to protect the work site, but caution is urged for those who access the park.
Additionally, the City of Moscow is planning to install a new pre-school age (2 - 5 years) playground at East City Park this summer. There are two playgrounds adjoining each other at the site, this replacement program is for the smaller pre-school age equipment, located immediately east of the play equipment for older children.
Surveys have been mailed to residences in the neighborhood surrounding the park to determine the type and color of equipment that will be included in the new playground. If you would like to participate in the survey as a member of the community at-large, you may complete the survey at the Hamilton Indoor Recreation Center, 1724 East F St. Responses are due by Thursday, December 27, 2012.
Thank you for your interest in and support of Moscow's park system. Please contact the Parks & Recreation offices at 208.883.7084 if you have any questions about the project.
