2010 Water Summit Series Hosts Regional Experts

September 16, 2011 (Moscow, Idaho) - The 2011 Palouse Basin Water Summit Planning Committee is hosting the 2011 Water Summit Speaker Series entitled "The Reality of the Resource," on  Tuesday, October 4, 2011 from 4 to 7 p.m., at the Schweitzer Engineering Laboratories Event Center, 1825 Schweitzer Drive, Pullman, WA.  The event is free and open to the public.

Speakers featured in the series include a video address from the Honorable Cathy McMorris Rodgers, Congresswoman - WA District 9, "The Palouse Basin Aquifer Committee - A Model of Cooperation" - Steve Robischon, PBAC including pumping updates, university research and general remarks; Palouse Basin Updates including, Pullman Stormwater Program - Rob Buchert, Program Coordinator, Moscow Surface Water Reservoir Study - Susan Firor, PE, TerraGraphics, Palouse Basin Framework Study - Robin Nimmer, PhD, TerraGraphics; Washington Water Update - Maia Bellon, Water Resources Program Manager, WA Ecology.

This year's keynote speaker is David R. Wunsch, Ph.D., PG. Dr. Wunsch is the director of science and technology for National Ground Water Association, serving to expand the Association's role as an international leader in the dissemination of groundwater-related scientific and technical information, and in the development of policy to guide wise use and protection of the planet's groundwater resources. Prior to accepting the NGWA position in the fall of 2010, Wunsch worked 10 years as state geologist for New Hampshire. He has previously served as a Congressional Science Fellow, most directly with the U.S. House Subcommittee on Energy and Mineral Resources, and has served on, and is currently an associate editor of NGWA's peer-reviewed journal, Ground Water(r). In addition, Wunsch was elected to Fellowship in the Geological Society of America in May 2011. He has been an adjunct professor at the University of New Hampshire and the University of Kentucky, and a visiting scholar at Dartmouth College. In 2010, he served as president of the Association of American State Geologists.

Advanced registration is preferred but not required for the event. Appetizers and a no-host bar will be provided for participants. Attendees are encouraged to stay after the presentations and discussion to build and strengthen relationships with others interested in continuing the water dialogue here on the Palouse.
