[Vision2020] Am I the Only One that Finds This Distasteful?

It really helps to celebrate the loss of someone who died in 9/11 to be told that they died because some alleged god was punishing them and others. How could this not make someone feel good?

It's my opinion that the world is big enough to hold both a 9/11 remembrance *and* a block party.

If I had died in the towers on 9/11, and I still had the capacity to want something (kind of a philosophical question), it would be for my family and friends to do something fun on this day to celebrate life. If they want to have a moment of silence for myself and the other victims of 9/11, I would feel honored, but I would not like them to spend all day being maudlin in my memory. Other people may feel differently, of course, which is really my point. Why be upset if someone else decides to mourn (or not) in a different way?

A simple matter of respect would demand that this block party celebration be rescheduled

Perhaps previous block parties may have been celebrated on 9/11, maybe not. Good God, Mr. Rumelhart, this is the ten-year anniversary of a catastrophe that took 3,000+ lives. Didn't NuArt Theater management even give a passing thought to the heartless connotation of a block party on the catastrophe's tenth anniversary? Or was the money simply too good to pass up?

I ask, Mr. Rumelhart . . .

Would your response be the same if, instead of a Christian venue, it were a Muslim mosque sponsoring this rock party?

The response of "Others are doing it," doesn't hold water. However, if you must stand by that defense . . .

What other organizations in Moscow are sponsoring block parties on Sunday?

According to the link in your email, it's a party they have near the beginning of every school year to welcome back UI and WSU students. Presumably, it happened to fall on 9/11 this year.

I'm sure there are plenty of other cases where some non-9/11-related event is scheduled for Sunday. Should every organization cancel all their events on Sunday because they happen to fall on this date?

I'm all for a remembrance of 9/11, I encourage it, but the entire country shouldn't have to halt everything that day. In my opinion, of course.

You guys find the funniest things to get all worked up over.

Can you even begin to imagine the fallout if a Muslim mosque had a block party on Sunday?

Their claim to be Christians is about as true as their claim that they will be presenting "world-class" music.

And remember: 9/11 was their alleged God's punishment of America for homosexuals, godlessness, etc.

On Sunday (September 11, 2011), while a majority of our nation pays solemn tribute to those who lost their lives . . . it has been encouraged for cities (as will Moscow) to activate their emergency sirens for one minute, commencing at 1:00 PM (EDT) . . . on September 11, 2001 . . .

The NuArt Theater, a self-proclaimed Christian venue is sponsoring . . . a block party?

Well, I guess that we each grieve in our own ways.
