Hilary Clinton, defending the State Department budget before the Senate, asked 
for more money to continue and to expand U.S. government media efforts abroad.

It is a less than happy day when one realizes that one is being asked to pay 
taxes to counteract the world media image of one's own culture overseas, 
especially in view of other nations' competitive offerings that best our own in 
their native markets. We've fallen from our own standards; a sad time, indeed.
