You know, there is a line of thought out there -- the current conservative consensus notwithstanding -- suggesting that children who have left the womb are in need of protection as well, being at least as valuable as their unborn brethren. Sadly, too many leave their passionate advocacy for children in the Obstetrics Suite of their local hospitals -- and in doing so leave babies, toddlers, and elementary-aged children, as well as youths, completely vulnerable.
This is a travesty.

I don’t understand . . . am I missing something? Is it truly possible that if one is “remorseful” enough, 3 years fixed/3 years indeterminate is a sufficient sentence for killing by shaking & then hitting a 6-month-old helpless infant in the head?!?! Not in any world where children are valued. Subject: [Vision2020] What's a child worth? Gooding man sentenced in infant's death By Jay MichaelsStory Published: Aug 10, 2010 at 11:51 PM CDT Story Updated: Aug 10, 2010 at 11:51 PM CDT Twin Falls, Idaho (KMVT) - A Gooding man was sentenced Tuesday for his role in the death of a six month old boy earlier this year.In late January Jason Blunt, 25, was arrested and charged with involuntary manslaughter in the death of six month old James Osborne. At the time Blunt was caring for the infant while Samantha Savage, the boy's mother and Blunt's girlfriend, was at work.Blunt pled guilty to involuntary manslaughter in late april.A Gooding police report said that the child may have been shaken while Blunt was caring for him; doctors said James Osborne died of a brain hemorrhage.Tuesday, 5th District Judge John Butler said the autopsy report said the baby's cause of death was blunt force trauma, not shaking.Butler said while Blunt appeared to be truly remorseful for the child's death, Butler could not ignore the pain Blunt had caused the family. The judge ordered Blunt to pay $1,000 restitution for funeral expenses, in addition to the jail time he'll serve of 3 years fixed and 3 indeterminate. ______________________________
