[Vision2020] Cat. 5 Rick: 180 mph: 2nd. Strongest in E. Pacific Records, Latest Season Cyclone in Baja History

While the Atlantic under the influence of El Nino and a lot of wind shear
conditions preventing storm formation, has been quiet this hurricane season,
the Pacific is another story.  Hurricane Rick heading for Baja/Mexico is at
least the second strongest eastern Pacific hurricane on record:

MEXICO SHOULD MONITOR THE PROGRESS OF THIS EXTREMELY DANGEROUS
HURRICANE.

SATELLITE IMAGES INDICATE THAT THE MAXIMUM SUSTAINED WINDS REMAIN
NEAR 180 MPH…285 KM/HR…WITH HIGHER GUSTS. RICK IS A CATEGORY
FIVE HURRICANE ON THE SAFFIR-SIMPSON SCALE. SOME FLUCTUATIONS IN
INTENSITY ARE LIKELY DURING THE NEXT 24 HOURS…BUT RICK IS
EXPECTED TO REMAIN AN EXTREMELY DANGEROUS HURRICANE FOR THE NEXT
DAY OR TWO.

HURRICANE FORCE WINDS EXTEND OUTWARD UP TO 60 MILES…95 KM…FROM
THE CENTER…AND TROPICAL STORM FORCE WINDS EXTEND OUTWARD UP TO 175
MILES…280 KM.

ESTIMATED MINIMUM CENTRAL PRESSURE IS 906 MB…26.75 INCHES.

With the previous latest landfall of a tropical cyclone in Baja being Oct
13th <http://www.bajainsider.com/weather/hurricanes/historic_hurricanes.htm>,
Tropical Storm Olivia in 1967 and Hurricane Norbert last year on Oct 11,
Hurricane Rick is setting records. it is likely now that Rick will make
landfall as a tropical cyclone, making it the latest season tropical cyclone
in Baja history. It is currently the second most powerful storm to ever
exist in the Eastern Pacific. Should it make landfall as a Category 3 it
will only be the second Cat 3 to do so in Baja. (Kiko 1987).

Tropical Depression 20E formed on the afternoon of 10/15/09. TD20E rapidly
evolved into Tropical Storm Rick on the evening release from the NHC at 9PM
on 10/15/09. Rick became a hurricane on the morning of 10/16. Rick achieved
category 2 status on the evening of 10/16. Rick became a Category 4
Hurricane at 3AM MDT on 10/17. Rick became a Category 5 Hurricane at 4:10PM
on 10/17.
