Paper trail to the dealer's front door?  Tom, you've got to be kidding.  And I'm not so sure they could have successfully prosecuted the former car owner either.

But sure, maybe they could have charged him with possession, and maybe he could have sat in jail until the charge got dropped, or maybe plead to something reduced just to get out and try to get his life back.
