Moscow Food Co-op Sponsors Cooking Classes: Ethnic Cuisine
The Moscow Food Co-op is sponsoring a series of cooking classes this spring, featuring ethnic cuisine. Each class will include a 1 1/2 hour cooking session with sampling and discussion. All classes are held in the kitchen of the Unitarian Universalist Church of the Palouse, 420 E. Second St., Moscow, Idaho. The cost is $24 per class. Registration is required; register with any Co-op cashier at 121 East Fifth Street in downtown Moscow. Enrollment is limited to 20 per class.
Classes:
South Indian Cuisine, taught by Srividya "Sri" Narayanan, 4 - 5:30 p.m., Saturday, April 11.
Featured recipes: Bisibelabath (rice w/ vegetables), pachadi (spiced yogurt), poriyal (steamed seasonal vegetables), vadai (fried chickpea patties), and rava kesari (semolina sweet dish).
Instructor Srividya "Sri" Narayanan grew up in Chennai (formerly Madras) in Southern India, but has lived in the United States for the last 8 years. She currently works in the School of Molecular Biosciences at Washington State University. An enthusiastic vegetarian, she likes to adapt ethnic foods to her vegetarian lifestyle. She looks forward to sharing the authentic, home-cooked specialties of southern India.
Moroccan Cuisine, taught by Laila Kairouani, 4 - 5:30 p.m., Saturday, April 18.
Featured recipes: Moroccan tea, couscous, tfaya (sweet couscous), dates.
Instructor Laila Kairouani is an international student from Morocco currently attending the University of Idaho in the college of Letters Arts and Social Sciences. She is excited to share her country's cuisine with our community.
