  To whom it may concern,

University City realty and The University of Idaho’s architecture and forest products departments have partnered to study and develop energy-conserving residential building practices.

Professors from the architecture and forest products departments designed an upper level course in cooperation with University City’s development team. The course requires the students enrolled to perform a building site assessment, design a small economically viable home that is as close to a zero net energy consumer as possible. University City’s development team will then build the home with long-term data collection in mind.

Our goal is to provide this opportunity to the University of Idaho for many years by building one house per school year, incorporating non-invasive energy consumption monitoring equipment which will provide the ability to collect real-time energy consumption information about building methods and materials. Construction is scheduled to begin summer 2009.

A successful start to this program promises benefits to the University of Idaho, the City of Moscow and ultimately the natural environment. We welcome assistance of any kind during all phases of the program. Contact us to learn how you can be a part of this progressive opportunity.

  Sincerely,

  John Marone
