The following U.S. service members died while supporting combat operations in Iraq, confirmed by the Defense Department from March 6, 2009 through March 12, 2009:
Navy Petty Officer 1st Class Theophilus K. Ansong, 34, of Bristow, Virginia; assigned to USS San Antonio (LPD 17) as it conducted operations in the Gulf of Aden.
Marine Lance Cpl. Patrick A. Malone, 21, of Ocala, Florida; assigned to 2nd Tank Battalion, 2nd Marine Division, II Marine Expeditionary Force, Camp Lejeune, N.C.

Killed: 2; wounded in action: 16
March 19, 2003 – March 12, 2009
Killed: 4,248; wounded in action: 31,118

Army Sgt. Christopher P. Abeyta, 23, of Midlothian, Illinois; assigned to the 1st Battalion, 178th Infantry Regiment, 33rd Infantry Brigade Combat Team, Woodstock, Illinois.
Air Force Staff Sgt. Timothy L. Bowles, 24, of Tucson, Arizona; assigned to the 3rd Logistics Readiness Squadron, Elmendorf Air Force Base, Alaska.
Army Spc. Norman L. Cain III, 22, of Oregon, Illinois; assigned to the 1st Battalion, 178th Infantry Regiment, 33rd Infantry Brigade Combat Team, Woodstock, Illinois.
Marine Staff Sgt. Archie A. Taylor, 37, of Tomball, Texas; assigned to 2nd Intelligence Battalion, II MEF Headquarters Group, II Marine Expeditionary Force, Camp Lejeune, North Carolina.
Army Spc. Robert M. Weinger, 24, of Round Lake Beach, Illinois; assigned to the 1st Battalion, 178th Infantry Regiment, 33rd Infantry Brigade Combat Team, Woodstock, Illinois.
