Greetings:

Every year the UI faculty union publishes a salary survey. It can be read along with surveys going back to 2001 at <www.home.roadrunner.com/~nickgier/salaries.htm>.

Visionaries may want to read about the 76 faculty who went to greener pastures at www.home.roadrunner.com/~nickgier/greener.htm. Several years ago Shirley Ringo asked us to compile this list, and the response this year was most gratifying.

In addition to the fact that Rob Spear, the UI Athletic director, may have receive the highest raise (31 percent over the last four years), here are the other highlights of the survey.

>From 619 Ranked Faculty to 506 over 12 Years: Doing Much More with Much Less

Average Salaries Rose 3.3% in 2008-09, but 18.4 % behind Research II Average; Professors at -21.4%; Associates, -16.5 %; Assistants, -14.4%

Full Professors in Some Disciplines are over 30 percent behind Research II Institutions

Top Administrative Raises up 260% over 27 Years vs. Full Professors at 198%; CPI is 215

President White’s $291,912 was a 411 percent increase over President Gibb’s 1981 Salary

Over 12 Years, 76 Faculty in 20 Disciplines have moved on to Greener Pastures

Across the Board Raises before Merit Pay; otherwise Many Faculty Lose Pay to Inflation

Collective Bargaining is the Only Answer
