PRESS RELEASE
In the past week the Moscow Police Department has seen an increase in
bike thefts.
When it comes to getting around Moscow, bicycle transportation is very
popular. When it comes to theft in Moscow, bikes are very popular to
steal. There were 107 stolen bike reports taken in 2008. Most of those
bikes were not returned because they were not registered.
The Moscow Police Department urges residents to license their bikes.
This greatly increases the chance of getting your bike back if it is
stolen. It is also required by city code to have all bicycles licensed
with the City of Moscow.
The chance of bicycles getting stolen when they are not locked goes up
dramatically.
You can chose to lock up your bike or not, but the facts are, if you
lock your bike with a high quality lock you make it more difficult for
the thief. Most thieves want to steal a bike quickly and do not want to
deal with a lock.
Please help us help you, LOCK UP your bike and get a bicycle license
from the Moscow
Police Department, Monday through Friday 8am to 5pm. The license is
ONLY $7.00 and is good for LIFE!
