Harkins' shrill nonsense was aptly answered by Joe Campbell:
"Lastly, I don't have a problem with the fundraising campaign nor with the
fact that donators are asked to "list the address of the McCain campaign
headquarters or the Alaska governor's office." For crying out loud the woman
is running for VP of the US. Citizens have the right to let her and McCain
know how they fell about the topic."

Exactly so.

Especially curious to me is why people like Harkins & Crabtree are so rabid
in their responses to those of us who are discussing Palin's anti-choice
rhetoric when she bills herself as "unapologetically pro-life"? An
especially reactionary anti-choice stance, BTW, that includes opposition to
emergency contraceptives for women, including rape and incest survivors.

Once possible conclusion for their reactions to be so completely over the
top could be that they are scared silly by those of us who are able to think
past Palin's carefully scripted -- indeed, monotonous -- talking points.
They hoped we'd be foolish enough to be blinded by personality rather than
focusing on the issues, and they remain ticked that tactic didn't work :-)

OTOH, maybe Harkins is just terribly confused. Perhaps he's confused the
NRA's official campaign to malign Vice Presidential Candidate Senator
Barack Obama with the efforts of over 31,000 individual US citizens' efforts
to put their money where their mouths are with respect to privacy,
reproductive rights, and family planning. I don't see how any rational
person could make such a mistake, but who knows? I invite readers to check
out this site "Paid for by the NRA Political Victory Fund (www .NRAPVF.org)
Not authorized by any candidate or candidate's committee" and decide for
yourselves if Harkins' undies-twisted outrage isn't perhaps more applicable
to this:

Of course, I'll not be holding my breath for either of them to condemn the
NRA's official fundraising tactics . . .

But, I will be thanking God that it's not up to the Harkins' of the world to
tell me what charities are worthy of my support.

Chasuk,

I use an older dictionary - probably because I am older.

Defame - to attack or injure the reputation or honor of by false and
malicious statements; malign, slander or libel.
[Webster's New World, 3rd College Edition, 1988]

To claim a donation to Planned Parenthood was to honor Governor Sarah
Palin is a false and malicious statement. The intent is to malign
the Vice Presidential Candidate Gov. Sarah Palin.

It is interesting that we agree on the vendetta against Christ
Church, e.g., counterproductive and hypocritical.
