Saundra,

Well, I am not shocked that you are that mean spirited and judgmental to believe my comments meant we should not provide care as opposed to controlling the costs so she can afford to live on $400,000. If she cannot make it on $800,000, obviously the rest of us don't have a chance when we get to that point in our life, because I as sure hell don't have that kind of cash laying around and I bet most other don't either.

Why does it cost $5,000 a month for Skilled Nursing Care? Why does it cost $800,000 to get basic care? That is the question.

Why doesn't this outrage you as much as your cruel slanted misinterpretation of what I was trying to say? You really think I don't think this woman doesn't deserve care, when obviously I care enough to work for nursing homes caring for people?

It shouldn't cost $3000-$5000 a month. It is time to stop paying these ridiculous costs, to weed out the insurance companies, CEOs, Lawyer, over charging medical companies, and ever doctors that charge exorbitant amounts. It is time to deregulate so that caregivers can give care at costs the average person can afford.

90% of the work done for a person in a nursing home is done by CNAs and Caregivers, and make only about $6-$15 an hour. So obviously, we know somebody else is getting rich.

So let us turn our attention to this fact, not to twisting what somebody means or justifying why it is OK to charge $5000 a month for an elderly person to live in a 15 x 15 room.

  Best Regards,

  Donovan

If his claims were more than hot air, he wouldn’t have made such a MORONIC comment about the costs of this woman’s care.

Nursing home care is expensive, as Donovan should well know given his comments about LHS.

Using Donovan’s own figure of $5000/month *just* for skilled nursing care, anyone can do the math to see why $400,000 isn’t nearly enough to provide for this woman’s care.

  Donovan sez:

"Of course the big question for me here is, why isn't $400,000 enough to care for this woman?

Why does she need $800,000? That is a lot of money, more than most people will make in their lifetime. "

I'm not even going to suggest that maybe you're a callous s.o.b. I'm going to let it go and just chalk it up to your youth and inexperience in the world. Life has a way of catching up with you and kicking you in the butt when you least expect it. So instead of berating you, I'll just say this to you: May you never find out the cost of a double bypass. The cost of the surgeon, anesthesiologist, CCU, lab tests, medication, cardiac rehab, multiple stent implants and for good measure we'll throw in 6 years of fighting a losing battle to lung cancer. Because if you ever had to deal with this, you'd know that $400,000 to $800,000 can be a drop in the bucket for on-going medical expenses. And I extend this wish to everyone. . . may you never have to find out just how inadequate your health care insurance truely is.
