The following U.S. service members died while supporting combat operations in Iraq, confirmed by the Defense Department from December 12, 2008 through December 18, 2008:
 
Army Staff Sgt. Jonathan W. Dean, 25, of Henagar, Alabama; assigned to the 561st Military Police Company, 716th Military Police Battalion, 101st Sustainment Brigade, 101st Airborne Division (Air Assault), Fort Campbell, Kentucky.
 
Army Pfc. Coleman W. Hinkefent, 19, of Coweta, Oklahoma; assigned to the 1st Battalion, 6th Infantry Regiment, 2nd Brigade, 1st Armored Division, Baumholder, Germany. 
 
December 12, 2008 – December 18, 2008
Killed: 2; wounded in action: 8
 
March 19, 2003 – December 18, 2008 
Killed: 4,200; wounded in action: 30,879
