AAnd how's this for a new rule. I've been thinking about this since
Cable's second season as the Vandals' head coach . . .
Suppose it is late in the fourth quarter of the game (say . . . maybe a
minute, thirty to go). Your team (say, the Vandals) is trailing by 35
points.
The Vandals have the ball at their own two yard line, third down and 61
yards to go for a first down.
Vandal QB Nathan Enderle connects with WR Max Komar, who scampers down
field for a touchdown.
Under current rules, this touchdown would mark the end of the play,
forcing the Vandals to do an on-side kick.
Under my proposed rule, after Komar crosses the goal line, he would be
permitted to reverse field and run in the opposite direction in an attempt
to score another touchdown (100 yards away). If/Once Komar scores another
touchdown, he would be permitted to reverse field again in attempt to
score a third touchdown (100 yeards away). And so on and so on and so
on . . . until Komar (or whoever the ball carrier is at the time is
tackled or run out of bounds).
In this manner, the 35-point deficit could be reduced.
Thoughts?

"We're a town of about 23,000 with 10,000 college students. The college
students are not very active in local elections (thank goodness!)."
