[Vision2020] Civil disagreement

At the Moscow Civic Association's forum last Monday on Smart Economic Growth for a Prosperous Moscow, http://www.moscowcivic.org/ , I concluded the program with some comments about my feelings about the community, the commitment to public service by those willing to run for office, and my gratitude to all who were running for council.  Afterwards, I received a request that I post my comments from one of the candidates.  My comments were extemporaneous, and so I cannot do that precisely, but what follows is an approximation of what I said.  Since the entire program was recorded by KRFP, it will ultimately show up on the radio's web site, http://audio.radiofreemoscow.org/ , but it is not yet posted there.

Anyway, what I said was something along the lines of this:  

I noted how pleased I was to see so many of the council candidates in the audience, including some with whom I had political disagreements.  I commented that I am certain that all of the candidates that were running have good intentions, and I stated that I know that they all are good people.  I said something along the lines that we may have some disagreements among us on how to make the Moscow community better, but despite those differences, I know that it's everyone's goal to do that, and that all the candidates for Council sincerely believe that they can make a positive difference for Moscow.  No matter what happens in the election, I said then, and I believe now, that we need to pull together after the election and do the best that we can for the community.  Moscow is a wonderful, passionate community.  Let's keep our passion positive and productive.

I hope that does justice to what I said.
