Strange Imaginary Animals at the University of Idaho
The renowned new music sextet eighth blackbird will return to the Auditorium
Chamber Music Series for a program called "Strange Imaginary Animals" on
Tuesday March 20. The concert is at 7:30 pm in the University Auditorium on
the University of Idaho campus.
Praised for their "flaring performance . . . lavish sound and pure wizardry"
in the Philadelphia Inquirer just two weeks ago, eighth blackbird’s unique
programming and engaging performance style has entranced Palouse audiences
on their previous two appearances on the Auditorium Series. The ensemble of
piano, flute, clarinet, violin, cello, and percussion will be performing
works by Joseph Schwantner, Carlos Sanchez-Gutierrez, Franco Donatoni,
Gordon Fitzell, Stephen Hartke and Derek Bermel. All of the works on the
program were composed within the past 25 years. eighth blackbird is quite
unique among chamber music ensembles in featuring a major role for
percussion instruments.
The musicians of eighth blackbird will be in residence at the University of
Idaho for two days, during which time they will work with students in music
and dance.
Tickets for the concert, at $8 for students, $15 for seniors, and $18 for
general admission, are available on the website or at Book People in
downtown Moscow. If the concert is not sold out, they will also be
available at the door.
All programs of the Auditorium Series are supported by generous grants from
the Idaho Commission on the Arts and the National Endowment for the Arts.
