I guess irony succeeds when people can't recognize it.
Of course it's serious Tom and Megan, in the sense that it exists and is
being promoted. Those promoting it are well aware it won't succeed.
They're making the point that opponents of gay marriage cite the inability
of gays in the marriage to procreate with each other as a reason to prevent
gay marriages.
They're bringing this legislation because they know those same opponents are
unlikely to oppose or urge the end of childless (for whatever reason)
heterosexual marriages, and intend then to point to the hypocrisy of these
same opponents.
And of course, if those opponents agree to such legislation, they will then
alienate heterosexuals who don't have children.
