If you're planning your weekend activities, please consider a short jaunt to the fairgrounds on Sunday to support our the Latah County 4-H horse project participants as they demonstrate their newly-learned skills and pride in their horses in a variety of horse show classes. Classes start at 8:30am, and a program of competitors and classes is usually available at the secretary's booth. A gymkhana, or playday with speed events, will be held Monday. The first and second place kids in each class earn the honor of representing Latah County 4-H at this year's district 4-H show, to be held in Sandpoint next month.
These kids put in long, hard hours on their horse projects, and deserve their community's attention and appreciation. Because the fairgrounds is too small to hold all projects at once during the September county fair, these kids are forced to have their own makeshift fair with their horses on an earlier (and hotter) date, represented later only their recordbooks in a quiet corner of the exhibit hall. To see the real results of their work, please come cheer on the kids and their horses in person!
For those that have kids that like to be around or pet horses but rarely get the opportunity, most 4-Her's will allow visitors to approach their animals with appropriate permission. I've yet to meet a kid who isn't delighted to answer questions about their horse's breed, age, color, history, and future, so please don't be shy! :-)
