Hi all:

Sorry I haven't responded to people for a few days. I was busy with the
leadership seminar we held at the Sheriff's Office. I was very pleased to
see so many local leaders in attendance whether their affiliation was with
the city of Moscow (Mayor Chaney and Chief Weaver among others), rural
agencies (Bill Krick from Genesee Fire), or businesses (Brent Loney of BCL
Electric and Shane Nilsson of Rez Painting, among others). We had a pretty
wide range of folks which led to pretty interesting group discussions, I
believe. I hope we all took with us a better understanding of each other's
plights and of how we can work together to enhance our respective goals. For
those of you who attended, I'd love to hear your feedback in general.

I noticed a pretty big discussion about web sites and protecting children.
To anyone who wants one, I have several CD copies of a great presentation
the Idaho Prosecuting Attorneys Assn put together with the Atty. Gen. These
are free and we have literally hundreds, so if you would like personal
copies or copies to hand out to your organization/school, stop by the
Sheriff's Office and ask for them or contact me so I can send them to you
via US mail.

I have forwarded "Art Deco's" email regarding wolves to the appropriate
authority. I've heard of wolf sightings in Latah County (mainly from
deputies or from hunters) but we don't create calls or keep a tally of
animal sightings in our computer files. We did not create any call files in
2006 that involved wolves-several involved bears and moose, however. Though
I should also state that the Sheriff's Office is less likely to receive such
a call than Fish and Game (most of the wildlife calls we receive have to do
with animal vs. vehicle collisions or road hazards created by wildlife). NPR
had something on recently about wolf populations in Idaho-I can't remember
what was said since I was concentrating more on driving than listening in
this weather!

As for football matters: I am a UI grad. My father has taught at UI for 36
years. He got his undergraduate degree at Florida State. Neither of us ever
thought we'd hear the words "Go OK!" come out of our mouths until the Fiesta
Bowl. I am a Vandal fan and by that very definition not pro-Bronco. My
apologies to whomever I hung up on during the championship game, but I must
ask: What would possess you to call me during football?!

Take care!
