[Vision2020] Missing the point (was Commentary by Michael Costello of theLewiston Tribune)

OK, the survey question(s) should have been worded
better and the methodology should have been more
sound. But frankley I think most of us are missing
the point. Costello, the Tribs local "conservative
voice", has never been one to let evidence, logic, or
reason muddy his thinking on any particular issue.

I think that the political/social left ought to be
concerned about misinformation in the paper. But I
also think that the THINKING right -- and this
population is sizeable, whether or not the orthodox
left wish to acknowledge it -- , has every reason to
be furious that the regular local conservative voice
in the trib. has little understanding of how to
construct an argument and support it with REAL
evidence. Costello's weekly nonsense usually does
little more than makes local social/economic
conservatives look foolish and ignorant.

This kind of sloppy, unsupported, "can I rile up some
folks" commentary is par for Costello's course. No
discussion of the evidence is gonna change Costello,
but some heat on the Trib. might. It seems to me all
partisans have a stake in improving the voice/image of
local conservatives. Then maybe we can talk about
what data means, instead of what data is.

Eric
