Booksigning about Going TV-Free

Barbara Brock of Spokane, who wrote a book about families who live without television, will be at BookPeople in Moscow on Saturday, September 8, from 10am until noon for a booksigning and multi-media presentation about going TV-free.

Brock's book is entitled "Living Outside the Box: TV-free Families Share Their Secrets." The 214-page book was published by Eastern Washington University Press in 2007. Brock, who teaches at Eastern Washington University, documents the reasons some American families have chosen to eliminate television from their homes, and also explains how these families have made that change.

Brock, her husband and their two children have lived without a TV for the last 22 years.

The book focuses on the results of her national survey of 300 TV-free families. Those families overwhelmingly reported that they were satisfied with their decision to be TV-free, Brock said. Ninety percent reported no regrets in that decision. In addition, about 80 percent stated that their marriages were stronger without TV in the home and about 70 percent reported that their children acted better without TV.

BookPeople is located at 521 South Main in downtown Moscow.
