[Vision2020] [Vision2020) DEATH TO VERMIN!

Oh no Paul, my intention when advocating the summary execution of violent predators had nothing to do with revenge, but every thing to do with PROTECTING THEIR FUTURE VICTIMS FROM ATTACK. Not all killing is wrong or inappropriate Paul; there is such a thing as justifiable and indeed, merciful killing. To execute a killer is to SAVE his future victim's LIVES!

What a positive thing. Won't you get on board the peace train?

Like being stone-cold, barbaric, emotionless, revengeful killers is something to aspire to. Me, I'll stick to trying to treat people humanely, *despite* what they might or might not deserve.

While I have no doubt about his guilt in this particular case, I'm also against the death penalty because of all the innocent people we keep finding we've put to death as a country based on DNA evidence. I haven't always thought this way, but every time I hear about another death penalty case where the wrong man or woman was convicted I sway towards the idea of life in prison without parole despite the cost.

P.S. "Death To Vermin" wouldn't be a reference to Vernor Vinge's "A Fire Upon the Deep", would it? Just curious because that's where I get my userid (godshatter).

Actually whayman, killing sociopathic predators does indeed, in a very real
sense, bring someone back. By acting as a deterrent to future aggression
and rendering the problem of recidivism moot, capital punishment would
preempt thousands of innocent deaths annually.

Until you are able to muster the courage to dispense with predatory vermin
such as Duncan, you will continue to be part of the problem.

  Hello all,

I would agree with anyone that Duncan tests the limits much more than even
more than Malvo in the DC area. What Duncan apparently did lies outside
the human scope of sympathy. But even within this absolutely and
disgustingly twisted psychopathic scenario, I still cannot advocate a
penalty of death for anyone. Duncan included.

Killing, as we all know, brings back no one. The argument of the death
penalty as resolution and closure I find closer to vengeance than justice.

Please don't take me wrong; I don't think rehab etc. is the issue in this
case. I do hope that the rest of his life is spent anonymously and ignobly
incarcerated.
