Tom,
 
A more realistic scenario regarding the death penalty would be:
 
Without the death penalty:  A huge number of violent predators are  unleashed 
on society or on their weaker fellow inmates.
 
With the death penalty:  With very rare exemptions those who rape,  murder 
and pillage will be dispatched to their just reward resulting in far less  
recidivism.
 
Question:  Which scenario would a reasoning person support?
