[Vision2020] interesting...

Chasuk,

The statement you so vehemently abhor was in response to our resident lesbian's ruthless and unprovoked rant against me--one of the most hateful emails I have ever received.. In my defense, I'm not a pacifist and don't play dead and roll over in fright or guilt, I respond... She was the one suggesting stereotypes--sarcastically, I might add; I just added to them...

excerpted from her rant...

Name a "lesbian atheist" with whom you met. How did you know she
was an atheist? Was it on her nameplate? And how did you know she was
a lesbian? Did she play golf? Was she sporting a mullet? Did she
make you listen to k. d. lang singing "Skylark?"

What, just roll over and play dead because the person who speaks is from a minority group? Hogwash! She can sling mud, but I must sit still and take it? No way Jose...

Finally, you assert...

"If I had children who were still of school age, and I knew that a
teacher had uttered those ugly words in a public place, I would do my
damnedest to ensure that that teacher was a teacher no more. Those
aren't words that a role-model for children speaks."

I can't imagine anyone using this dialogue in a classroom of children. A belief system is one thing, teaching a subject in school is another. We are all entitled to our own unique opinions. Additionally, teaching one's children about steaotypes at home is an obligation... This is an open forum, not a classroom. I know the difference. Also, I really don't follow your line of reasoning... Scans all the posts and see who slings the most mud....it won't be me...but go ahead and defend anyone you please. It is your right

"Ugly words"? I challenge you to locate a curse word in anything I've written...I never curse, even by the most conservative definition of cursing.. Defending oneself or calling a spade a spade is a different thing altogether

Ed

I think I am getting to recognize your profile. I'm guessing that you
are one of those inexplicable people who are "proud" of their white
heritage. This blog entry leads me to that conclusion:

"And what really gets my dander flowing is that every white person is
so afraid of defending their heritage because someone will call them a
  racist."

I'm proud for having two feet, Ed. I'm especially proud that I have
one left foot and one right foot. Think of all of the work that I did
as I busy little fetus ensuring my proper footedness. So I understand
why you would defend your white heritage. It has nothing to do with
racism, and everything to do with all of that prenatal energy you
expended in working on your whiteness.

Thank you for sharing. It has been both disturbing and enlightening,
though I can't say in equal parts. I'll leave it to you to deduce
whether the former or the latter dominates.
