Moscow Civic Association Endorses Two Candidates

 

The Moscow Civic Association has endorsed two candidates in the November Moscow city election: Nancy Chaney for mayor and Bob Stout for City Council (four-year term).  

The MCA Subcommittee on Elections and Debates (SED) met numerous times over the spring and summer and interviewed seven individuals before making this recommendation.  The MCA Board of Directors then ratified the SED's recommendation and approved these endorsements.  


The MCA makes no financial contributions to the candidates, but encourages MCA members and the voting public to support them.  

 

Nancy Chaney and Bob Stout were chosen for endorsement because they are thoughtful and progressive candidates committed to Smart Growth, public involvement, and other MCA ideals, noted Brad King, MCA president.

 

Nancy Chaney has lived in Moscow for 25 years. She is a member of the Moscow City Council and chairs Moscow's Public Works/Finance Committee.  Nancy has served on numerous volunteer boards, including the Fair and Affordable Housing Commission, Transportation Commission, Historic Preservation Commission, Health and Environment Commission, Citizens' Rate Committee (water rates), Large-Scale Retail Development Emergency Ordinance Committee, and Palouse Basin Water Summit Planning Committee. She is the co-owner of Veterinary Ophthalmic Specialties of Moscow and is a registered nurse. Chaney received a masters' degree in environmental science from the University of Idaho in 2002.

Bob Stout was born in Moscow, raised on a family farm and ranch in Uniontown, and graduated from Colton High School in 1989.  He moved to Moscow in 2001 to complete his bachelor's degree.  In 2004 he received a Master's of Arts degree in anthropology.  In 2004, he began working as Assistant Director of New Student Services with the University of Idaho.  He also has an assistantship there, enabling him to teach political science while completing his Masters in Public Administration degree.  Bob volunteers on the Board of Directors of the Moscow Civic Association and the Latah Economic Development Council.  He also serves on the Moscow Human Rights Commission.  His spouse, Sara is an academic advisor for the University of Idaho.  Their children are Dylan, age 12, Emily, age 8, and Elizabeth, age 3.
