I'm not defending Nagin. I'm not defending Blanco. Both screwed up, and
Louisiana voters can do as they please with them. Katrina, however, was a
national emergency which demanded a national response, and that response was
bungled by the people in charge -- FEMA -- to the Nth degree. I expect
people to be held accountable, especially Chertoff and the serially
incompetent Browne.
Also note that I am challenging not reality, which was that the federal
response was approved on the 26th of August, but the patently false spin
being peddled by the White House that federal response wasn't asked for by
Tuesday. Even if that were the case, which it isn't, the response would be
ridiculous: the White House is expecting us to believe that the federal
government was forced to sit on its hands because the proper paperwork
wasn't filed.
When you appoint people to positions not despite of, but rather because of
their disdain for the principle that government can be a positive force in
peoples' lives, this has consequences. Bush did so, and Louisianans and
Mississippians are now reaping the consequences There are no atheists in
foxholes, and there are no Libertarians in hurricanes.

And I do not read posts with foul language in them.
