Hang on.  The calculation might be just a little more complicated.

Gay and lesbian people often have children and grandchildren. 
Some straight people don't have any.  
Parents of any sexual orientation exercise relatively little control over
the size of their children's families.
It is statistically likely that at least some of Doug's children will have
fewer than 8 children--perhaps as few as zero.
It is also statistically likely that at least some of Doug's children or
grandchildren will be gay, which may affect their willingness to hang out
with him--particularly if he calls them sodomites and concubines.
