	Those who want us to vote for Gary Schroeder because of his 
power as Chairman of the Senate Education Committee don't understand 
how Schroeder's misuse of that power has hurt UI.
	As Chairman of the Education Committee, Schroeder has the 
power to obstruct Legislation that his bosses in the State Department 
of Education and the IEA don't like, simply by not allowing it to 
ever come before the full Committee or the full Senate. That power 
does not require the cooperation of anyone else.
	But to accomplish something positive on behalf of the UI 
requires the cooperation of others, and there he has no credibility 
or clout. Because of his obstructionist tactics on behalf of the 
public schools, he has lost the ability to deal effectively with 
others and represent the interests of UI.
	So the upshot of sending him to the Legislature is to impede 
progressive legislation that would open up public schools to 
competition. But that also impedes Legislation that would favor UI. 
The UI's budget and influence have been sacrificed for the protection 
of a public school system that benefits few except those who work 
there.
	Voters from UI had better figure that out before they vote to 
send Schroeder to the Legislature where he will again sell out the UI 
for the IEA.
