Visonheads:

Douglas Wilson said, “What we’re doing will have a political impact, but
what we’re doing is not political.”

As an authorized spokesman for Douglas Wilson, he wants everyone to know
exactly what he means by this oxymoronic line. Yes, it is dougspeak, but it
carries more meaning than you might first think. As he told the Christ
Church elders, there is much more riding on this than just property tax --
the Kirk’s entire IRS 501(c)(3) exemption is at stake.

Therefore, when he says, “What we’re doing will have a political impact,”
he’s telegraphing the basis of his appeal: he plans on making this a “state
vs. church” conflict where he can play the victimized church that is being
harassed by the overbearing, intrusive state. In other words, it’s Big
Brother vs. the Little Sisters of the Poor. This is what he means by the
“principle.” The principle will be the church getting picked on; the
principle will be his rallying cry to other churches as he asks them for
their support; and the principle will be the “political impact” that he
hopes to accomplish: a reversal of the BOE’s revocation.

And when Wilson says, “but what we’re doing is not political,” he’s
maintaining a rhetorical line of demarcation between the Kirk and political
activism because he doesn’t want to give the IRS any more reasons to
deadbolt the Kirk’s doors than they already have. He can’t have them serving
search warrants until he’s done cooking the books.

Consequently watch the Wolfman of Alcatraz try to muster churches (local &
national) to his defense, as well as various media outlets. He dissed the
Mormons yesterday because he’s banking on the support of evangelicals (the
very ones he spent the last four months blogging on his websplotch); and he
thinks he can spin WORLD magazine, just as he’s stroking the “Lewiston
Morning Tribune.” But anyone who looks at the evidence (how did they get a
copy of a signed contract?) knows the Wolfman is rabid and must needs be put
down.

So the moral of the story is simple enough: There’s a wolf loose on the
Palouse, and neither you nor your children are safe until he’s stopped. To
that end,

I am, and shall remain, the Captain at your service.
