Well, we may not like it but perhaps this is what 'fledgling
democracy' looks like (see: history). They can't be expected to just
drop thousands of years of political/social/religious/cultural
tradition and behavior just because someone is telling them 'hey, now
you're a democracy! you need to do things differently. but only as
differently as we want you to'
I suspect King George 3 (as opposed to king george 43) would have
been appalled that our fledgling country did not condemn everyone to
death or whipping or whatever that fought/killed his soldiers. I know
that's not the best comparison in the world but we need to look at
things in a broader perspective.
Note: I am not a historian and have never even played one on TV or
the internet...
