In which Constitution do you find straight popular votes determining
general elections? It would be more correct to say that you wish to alter
(amend) the US Constitution to allow direct democracy in Presidential
elections. This was the process followed to allow direct elections of US
Senators, who were originally appointed by the States. There has never
been general elections as straight popular votes at the presidential level,
so it cannot be reestablished.
Take Care,
