[Vision2020] Whyte Will Compete for Olympic Medal in Hurdles

With a personal best time of 12.69 seconds, former UI track athlete Angela
Whyte qualified for the finals in the 100m hurdles at the Olympic Games in
Athens. Whyte finished fourth in her heat Monday morning (PDT) to
automatically qualify for the final.

 

"This is a dream come true," Whyte said. "I accomplished what I wanted too,
especially after yesterdays run to come out and qualify for the finals is
great."

 

Whyte's time of 12.69 in the semifinals is six one-hundredths of a second
faster than her previous best in the event. She will be in lane seven in the
final.

 

"It's the best feeling to have an opportunity to go for a medal," Whyte
said. "I'm a little speechless. So many people have helped me along the way
and tomorrow I'm running for everyone who has helped me get here."

 

The 100m hurdle final is Tuesday at 10:30 p.m. Athens time, 12:30 p.m.
Pacific time. Two athletes from the United States, two from Canada, two from
Russia, one from Jamaica and one from Ukraine will compete in the final.

 

"My first Olympics have been fun, it's been a fantastic experience," Whyte
said.
