Subject: RE: [Vision2020] "Intolerance" (learning to embrace it)
Mr. Newsome and Mr. Hanson, (and Visionaries):
Mr. Newsome writes:
My family and I will not patronize local businesses owned by Christ =
Church members, or those on this list that post obnoxious intolerant =
messages. I don't want even a portion of my money going to support this =
group.=20
Mr. Hansen writes:
I agree with you 1,000%, Mr. Newsome. I go to the bakery at least 2 =
or 3 times per week, and have done so for the past six years. I have =
yet (and probably never will) to see the insides of the bakery at the =
base of New St. Andrews.
You have the ability to spend your money as you see fit. The =
rightness of any such decisions lies in the motivation and evaluation of =
what is "fit", but that is a different issue. ..=20
However, apropos the thread title, "Intolerance", there are some (and =
I suspect many) Christ Church members who are members or who shop at the =
co-op--wherein they might have severe world view disagreements other =
patrons and supporters. And I doubt these same Christ church members =
would have any problem with shopping at the bakery at NSA. In this =
respect at least, they appear to be more "tolerant" than you two.=20
But this is consistent with previous discussions: tolerance and love =
are only positive virtues if it is appropriate that the object in =
question be, well, tolerated and/or loved. So please, no more =
statements implying intolerance is a bad thing (see again Mr. Newsome's =
message--not that I think it is obnoxious, but it has the appearance of =
intolerance). Again, the heart of the matter is the "goodness" of the =
subject in question.
Cheers,
--=20
