Sorry for the delay in responding, but I just read this in the weekend
edition of the Moscow-Pullman Daily news (page 2) and remembered you'd
asked :-)
"Mars parties planned in Pullman
The Palouse Discovery Science Center will hold a series of "Mars
Parties" with the Palouse Astronomical Society at Washington State
University's Jewett Observatory to witness the close approach of the
planet Mars.
The events will be Saturday and on each night Aug. 25 through Aug. 30.
Mars will be nearer to Earth than at any time in recorded history,
34,649,589 miles on Aug. 27.
The last time it was this close was nearly 60,000 years ago.
The Mars Parties are open to the public and will begin at 10 p.m.
The Jewett Observatory is located near Grimes Way and Olympia Avenue on
the WSU campus.
The facility, which recently underwent restoration and redecorating,
boasts the largest refracting telescope in the state.
The Palouse Discovery Science Center will open its new facility on Oct.
3. Schweitzer Engineering Laboratories, Inc. donated the
11,000-square-foot facility at 2371 NE Hopkins Court in Pullman."

For those who may not know where to look, you can see where Mars is
located
in this free sky map (wonderful astronomy site!):

Does anyone know if UI or WSU will be offering viewing opportunities on
with
any of their equipment on 27 Aug?
Best,
Dale
