If you keep up with current events that include Americans in America then you've probably heard of the U.of Michigan Admission policy dispute. Two (white) students are suing U.of M. after being rejected despite the highest academic qualifications, highlighting Affirmative Action policies.

Both sides are talking about fair and unfair and the dispute is "What does race equality mean?" The right to enter a school on equal footing or the right that all races enter a school in equal numbers?

This confusion of equality isn't new. It shouldn't be a question of whether or not, but where and how. Should men treat women as equals? Where? On the battlefield? No. In the courtroom? Yes.

Are men equal to women? How? Before God? Yes. As nurturers? No.
Are women equal to men in the weightroom? Depends on whether or not a pumped up female is picking on skinny computer geeks (present company excluded).

The ACLU is muddling the issue with comments like "Even in this hotly contested case no one has challenged the basic proposition that a diverse school is a better school," Ah, diversity, that grab-bag of blankchecks word. Would the school be better with militant Muslims? Hitlers? Hookers? DrugDealers? Screaming Christians? Crying Babies? Mimes? Lepers?

Not diversity whether or not, but what and how.
